About the Book
Unchained Eagle is the story of the spiritual journey of one Christian man as he struggles to reconcile the tragic events of aerial combat, the shooting down of his B-52 aircraft, and imprisonment in the Hanoi Hilton with his subsequent transformation into a pastor and priest of the Episcopal Church. Leaving Vietnam behind was not easy for this thoughtful man of God and breaking the chains of those tragic days took many years of effort. As a priest he has served congregations in Mississippi, Tennessee, Texas, Arizona and California-a later-life journey which along with his own struggle has led him to observe unexpected episodes of Church intrigue and politics.
Reviewers Comments
". . . In this book the Reverend Robert Certain has given us a gift! He has written his life experiences in such a way that his story becomes our story . . . And by examing his pilgrimage, we are given the freedom to examine our own." Bishop Dave Bena, Episcopal Diocese of Albany, USMC combat aviator, Vietnam "As a professional writer, I want to say what a superlative and outstanding job this is. Obviously it came from the heart and with a massive amount of research." Don Davis, author and Vietnam era reporter "I liked the way the story kept me in suspense . . . especially the perspective of other people (family, peers, NVA) and things that others might not be willing to tell - emotional after effects, relationships, etc. . . Thank you for telling the whole story." Jerry Heeren, Vietnam veteran
